I have often wondered about making wine. I know that many seniors I talk to often refer to wines they used to make in ‘the good old days’. Watermelon wine, dandelion wine, you name it, they used to make wine from it. You can buy great wine making kits that take much of the hard work out of wine making.

These kits are reasonably easy to use, not very expensive, yet they produce some of the best wine imaginable. Certainly far better than the cask wine you buy at the local liquor store. Better yet, there are no taxes on the wine you make yourself – it’s tasting better already, and I haven’t even purchased a kit yet.

The Internet has been a real boon for many businesses, making it easier for them to spread their services to all corner of the world. With a good web conferencing service, you no longer need to meet in person, even for product launches. Everyone hooks up to a web conference, and it’s like your all in the same room.

I made use of a web conference to hook up with friends from around the world when organizing a wedding. It made life so much easier, certainly easier than trying to organize things via email. We achieved more in 30 minutes than we would have achieved in a week of emails – and it didn’t cost the earth.

You know, I think the modern world has lost some of the charm of years gone by. Modern furniture is designed now to be very functional, clean lines, and often brightly colored. It can also be quite boring. Call me old fashioned, but old world furniture has that one extra attribute – charm. They look fabulous, and you feel like you’re sleeping or sitting on a millionaires bed or chair. Yet they are not really that expensive.

I particularly like the period pieces from around the late 19th early 20th Century. Some more modern pieces like that from Horchow also look great. Furniture needs to be functional, I agree, however, that doesn’t mean it can’t look fabulous as well, and you can get anything more charming than an old world furniture setting.

I am constantly amazed at how good some of the girl groups are these days. I know it’s not new, I grew up following Suzie Q, and if you have to ask who?, then you don’t know girl band rock. It’s the drummers that get me – I have six of them at home. Try to get them to learn to play guitar, but no, all they want to do is play the drums. Everything in the house becomes a drum.

Okay, I though, let’s get them a real drum kit. Good enough? No! Now they want their own drum sticks, and nothing but the best of course – the want Pro Mark drum sticks, and they want a set each – they’ll share the drum kit, but not the sticks. Kids? Work that one out can you.

The Summer holidays will soon be here, and I can’t wait. Our car and trailer are ready, we have added a bike rack for suvs so we can take our bikes, and we have plenty of spare dollars saved away. The kids have already worked out where we are going, so it’s all a matter of waiting until the holidays finally get here.

We always plan early, and over the last two years, I have let the kids work out where we are going. They sit down with a map and, with my guidance, work out where will go each day, where we’ll stop each night, and what we’ll do each day. It’s been a great experience for the kids, and for me, a real surprise. Come on Summer, where are you?
